Be Content With What You Have.
“Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV)
We are surrounded by a world driven by insatiable desire for more; more money, more fame, more sex and more of several other pleasures. In the modern world desire is a bottomless pit.
Instead of running on this ceaseless treadmill of greed, we need to follow the path of peace laid out for us by our Heavenly Father in His Word: contentment. The path of contentment is a restful path.
Contentment refers to a state of emotional satisfaction and happiness where one feels at peace with their current circumstances, without intense longing for more or different things.
Contentment involves the acceptance of one’s lot in life, gratitude for what one has, and a sense of fulfilment that isn’t dependent on external achievements or possessions as Jesus warned: “…Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” (Luke 12:15).
Apostle Paul exhorts Timothy to avoid being carried away with all these harmful lusts. “Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” (1 Timothy 6:6-8).
Money has no character, it is neither good nor bad. It takes the character of the owner. It is the love of money that produces evil, and has destroyed many lives and shipwrecked the faith of many. “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:9-10).
Don't live in pursuit of money or worldly riches. It's an empty life. Let your goals be different. Let your dreams reflect the kingdom to which you belong. You must contend only for things eternal and refuse to be distracted by the fleeting pleasures of this present world.
PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for what you have done in my life. I am satisfied in you, and knowing that you are my shepherd I shall lack nothing. I reject greed in all its forms, and with joy I embrace my lot knowing that you will never leave me nor forsake me, and that is more than enough for me. Amen.
