Be Filled With The Spirit.

"And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit" Ephesians 5:18 (NKJV)

On his missionary journey through Asia Minor, apostle Paul passed by the city of Ephesus, and found a dozen disciples who believed in the Lord Jesus. 

In his enquiry of their spiritual state he asked a pertinent question; "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” (Acts 19:2).

Their response was shocking and telling; "...So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” (Acts 19:2).

It was then that Paul realised the depth of their misalignment and how they stood in jeopardy of not even being born again. They had only heard of the baptism of John. 

Paul had to preach Christ to them and baptise them in water again in the name of the Lord Jesus, and he laid hands on them to receive the Holy Spirit. What a glorious day it was for them as they spoke in tongues and prophesied. 

This story teaches us that after the new birth, every Christian must be filled with the Spirit. It is not optional.

There is a reason why Jesus asked the disciples to stay in Jerusalem until they were filled with the Spirit. You can not live the true Christian life without the infilling of the Holy Spirit. It is absolutely impossible.

It is the Spirit of God who helps us to walk in righteousness and sin not; "For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." 

We can only mortify the sinful tendencies of the body by the Holy Spirit.

It is the power of the Holy Spirit that makes us competent witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ. Without the Spirit our witness is hollow and empty, and has no power to transform people's lives.

The Holy Spirit is the Helper you need. He will teach you all things and guide you into all truth.

 Be filled with the Spirit so you can live up to your fullest potential in Christ.

PRAYER

Thank you Father for the gift of the Holy Spirit made available to me by the death and resurrection of Christ. Today, I open my heart to receive the infilling of the Spirit in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
