Beware Of Fraud.

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."
Colossians 2:8 KJV

Any message that masquerades as the gospel but does not present Jesus Christ and Him crucified is a fraud. Paul warns the church to be alert in case someone would want to take advantage of you through philosophy. Philosophy is the rational investigation of questions about existence and knowledge and ethics. The key word being rational. Philosophical methods include questioning, critical discussion, rational argument, and systematic presentation. What is notable is that the knowledge gained through philosophy is all in the realm of the senses or material world.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is not rational but is true. You can not rationalize that a virgin in the first century A.D will give birth (without artificial insemination of modern science). You can not rationalize that a man who died on the cross as a criminal could actually be the Messiah whose sacrifice was for the forgiveness of sin for the whole world. It does not make sense. The gospel is not meant to make sense, it's meant to make faith. It is our faith that overcomes the world.

People who try to bring intellectualism onto the pulpit hurt the gospel without knowing. There is a lot of high sounding nonsense that gratifies the curiosity of the human brain but is of no value to the edifying of the spirit man. Do not be robbed by idle fancies or the elemental teachings of the universe. For only in Christ Jesus the whole fullness of Deity continues to dwell in bodily form giving complete expression of the divine nature. There is nothing lacking in Jesus that you might find through philosophy. Christ is the knowledge of God and the wisdom of God.

It is not part of common sense to see Jesus as the life and light of the world. It is easier to rationalize Jesus as a historical figure who impacted His generation like Aristotle and others, and yet He is so much more. He came that we might have life and that we might have it more abundantly. He is the image of the invisible God. He came to make the dead in sin live to righteousness. Our sins have been purged in Him, and through this Man of Galilee is preached to everyone the forgiveness of sins and all who believe will be justified from all things from which they could not be justified by the law of Moses. He is the resurrection and the life. The dead, He will raise again. The living who believe will never die. He is God in flesh. Hallelujah!

I belong to Jesus who is much more than the senses tell me. I believe in Jesus who is my very life.
