Born For Display

"God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display His wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 3:10 NLT

We must come to terms with the fact that the church as God sees it is not a bunch of pious people trying to live morally so they can get to heaven one day if they die. This thinking is beneath our calling as the church. We have passed from death into life, we are accepted in the Beloved, and called to manifest Christlikeness now. We have a calling to display to the angelic hosts the many-sided wisdom of God.

I thought angels were better positioned to preach the gospel given their proximity to the heavenly realms until I saw Acts 5:19-20: "But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out, and said, “Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life.”  See, the angel was free, the apostles were in prison. Now who must save time and go preach here? The angel right? But no, the angel wasted precious time and divine energy opening the prison door to let the apostles go free. Why go to such lengths holy angel? It's simple, the gospel was surrendered into the custody of the Spirit and the bride.

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is the wisdom of God. It is variegated, like a rainbow it beams out many colors but it's altogether lovely. And the church is the one called to display it. Some observers interprets this rich variety as disunity. Unity was never meant to be conformity. We can have unity with variety of display. Some Christians display an abundant God, others a gracious God, and also others a life giving God and the list goes on.

God is multi-dimensional. You can't put him in a box. The same Jesus who told the demoniac to go back home and preach, told Mathew "Follow me". The same God reaching the lost sheep of the house of Israel poured the Holy Spirit on the Gentiles as a sign that "God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life" (Acts 11:18). During persecution, Paul chose to be martyred (to show that even death can't separate us from Christ's love, Romans 8:38-39); but tradition holds that John was sentenced to death in a boiling vat of oil yet he emerged unharmed from the experience(to show that Jesus has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 2Timothy 1:10). It's the same gospel but has many colors just like the rainbow.

I am called to display the many-sided wisdom of God.
