"Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that."

The Lord Jesus is the epitome of love. He is love personified. His love is the standard with which we must use to love others. The law prescribed that, ‘‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 19:19 NKJV). It is pretty wonderful until it gets to the fellow who don't love himself too much. His capacity to love others is depended upon how he loves himself which is not very high quality love.

In the New Testament, the Lord gives His disciples new marching orders by saying, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another." (John 13:34 NKJV). If you think about it you will see how revolutionary this is. Man's love is fickle, fades and selfish but the love of Christ is extravagant, outrageous and divine.

His love never fails. That is the love with which He enjoins us to love others. The love of Jesus was sacrificial, and we must also lay our lives down for others. "By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." (I John 3:16 NKJV).

We must love the way Jesus loved, by giving out our everything. Let us spend and be spent for others. It's a life worth living. Walking in love is a proof that you have the life of God in you, "We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death. (I John 3:14 NKJV).

I know that I have passed from death into life because I love the brethren. I walk in the love with which Jesus loved me.
