Develop A Rhythm Of Rest
“Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven.”
Proverbs 23:4-5 NKJV
The Lord commends a diligent hand and often rewards it with riches, but He abhors overworking. There is a big difference between hard work (which I prefer to call diligence), and overworking.
Diligence involves determination to finish the job at hand with excellence and precision. Diligent people pay attention to detail, execute with excellence and do more than bare minimum. Diligence is a virtue and is highly encouraged.
The Lord warns us of the dangers of overworking to get rich. He cautions us on the propensity of the flesh to lean on your own understanding. We will all do well to trust Him for our provision for He is that Good Shepherd. He has promised that when we come to Him in trust and faith, we will go in and out and find pasture (John 10:9). He wants to lead you to prosperity.
Being wealthy is a gift from God. Deuteronomy 8:18 says,“And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”
When you know this and believe, you will work but from a position of rest. The toiling and striving will cease. You will cultivate a beautiful rhythm of rest. As God worked for six days and rested on the seventh day, so will you. Do not wear yourself out trying to get anything. Lean on Jesus, and let Him lead you into supernatural prosperity and increase without toil.
Do not forget that it is “The blessing of the LORD [that] makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.” Proverbs 10:22 (NKJV).
Prayer.
Lord, thank you for your love for me. You watch over me as the Good Shepherd that you are. I refuse to worry about my life for you are in charge as Lord over my life. I cast all my cares on you and I choose your rest in Jesus name. Amen.
