Don’t Grow Weary in Doing Good
Galatians 6:9-10 (NKJV)
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Imagine a farmer tending his fields under a scorching sun, planting seeds day after day, yet seeing no immediate growth. His back aches, his hands blister, and the horizon remains unchanged. It’s tempting to abandon the plow, but he presses on, trusting that the harvest will come. Like that farmer, we can grow weary in doing good, especially in a world that often seems indifferent or ungrateful. The needs around us—whether in our communities, churches, or even our own families—can feel like an endless field, and our efforts, a single seed.
It’s natural to feel drained when pouring out love and kindness, especially when appreciation is scarce. You might volunteer at church, serve the needy, or support a struggling friend, only to feel like your “cup” of compassion is running dry. The weight of unmet needs can make you wonder, Why am I the only one who sees this? Why aren’t others stepping up?
Consider the story of a lighthouse keeper, faithfully maintaining the beacon through stormy nights, even when no ships are in sight. The keeper doesn’t light the lamp because sailors thank him but because it’s his calling to guide them safely. Similarly, God has given you a heart like His—a heart that sees needs and acts with compassion. Not everyone shares this vision, but that’s not a reason to grow weary. It’s a privilege to reflect the Father’s love in a world that often overlooks it.
The Bible assures us that our labor is not in vain. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Every act of kindness, every moment of service, is seen by the One who never misses a single deed. Like seeds buried in the soil, your good works are investments in God’s eternal harvest. In due season, you will reap—whether it’s the joy of seeing lives changed, the strength of a renewed spirit, or the eternal reward promised by God.
So, keep tending the field. Keep shining the light. Keep giving for kingdom advancement. Never stop serving God. Don’t let weariness steal your calling. The harvest is coming, and it will find those who faithfully sow, not those who merely watch.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me eyes to see the needs around me and the strength to meet them. When I feel weary, be my source of endurance. Help me to continue doing good, especially for Your household, trusting in Your promise of reward. I declare that I will not grow tired of reflecting Your love in my world. Amen.
