Finished Work Part 5: Prosperity.

"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich."
II Corinthians 8:9.

Jesus said that the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him because the Lord had anointed Him to preach good news to the poor (Luke 4:18). The word poor in our opening verse should be looked at from the original language. It comes from the greek word ptocheuo which means to be a beggar or to become indigent.  Poverty means lack. It comes from the greek word for poor that means beggary(solicitations for money or food especially in the street by an apparently penniless person). It is a state of being a pauper or indigent. You can also say that it is lack of required necessities for comfortable survival. From the outset it is important to categorically state that poverty was never God's original intent. Poverty is part of the curse that was pronounced by God when man sinned in the beginning. "Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.” (Genesis 3:17‭-‬19).

When death came as a result of sin, poverty came with it. Poverty is the result of death. The separation of Adam from God severed him from God's provision. Things that he used to find easily are no longer readily available. Since he wanted so badly to become god, now he had illegally become. And when you become God you must fend for yourself. When you reject God's authority you reject God's provision. Adam must provide for his family by growing his own food. He was chased out of the place with food grown by God Himself for His son Adam. That was the beginning of poverty. The ground cannot yield it's strength anymore Adam. The forest is full of thorns and thistles instead of corn and fruits. It was a crisis but with time man has become used to it and many boast of the achievements they get as a result of sweat. They even say "sweat is sweet". But it's all a curse. And whatever you get by sweat you must keep by sweat and you usually lose it by sweat. Ever since Adam sinned, riches now have wings. Anytime they can fly away.

Work is not the problem but the return from work invested is the problem. Work was not a source of man's livelihood, it was a kingly assignment to order the earth, establish and advance heaven's dominion in the earth. Man's work was to have "dominion" in the earth. To have dominion means to rule, govern, manage and control the earth. That was man's job and God gave him a helper in Eve to fulfill God's assignment to replenish the earth. But man failed and that failure has cast billions of the first Adam's descendants in poverty and starvation. But there's hope in the second Adam. When Jesus said it was finished on the cross (John 19:30), He also meant that the curse of sweat is finished. He did sweat great drops of blood so that the curse of sweat may be broken. You will work but not for a living. You will work because you are living. Work is pleasurable if it is rooted in God's purpose for your life. It is fulfilling when you bless others with your talents and gifts. The company you join is blessed to have you because you are not just there to take but to give.

Jesus has brought to an end to the spiritual economic system that was created by death. Poverty and lack was abolished in Christ. Jesus is your Shepherd now and you shall not lack anything. He will lead you and cause you to lie down right in the middle of green pastures. He is the door and if anyone enters by Him He shall be saved, and shall go in and out and find pasture. Whenever you open your mouth He will fill it with the good of the land because He became poor for you that you may be rich. He was stripped naked and shamefully treated that you may be clothed in royalty and honor. This is our God. Praise God.

SPEAK OUT.
Jesus became poor for me that I might be rich. When death was abolished, poverty was abolished too.
