"Go To My Brethren..."
| Spiry Tee
"Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ ”
John 20:17 NKJV
Our identity with Christ is the one most important thing a believer must be acquainted with. Once you are born again in Christ and Christ lives in you, who you were ceases to be. The Lord Jesus came to give you sonship, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" (John 1:12 KJV).
Jesus called His disciples and they were His servants. After three and half years of walking with Jesus, He called them friends. "No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you." (John 15:15 NKJV). They graduated from being servants to friends.
After His resurrection, the Lord Jesus told Mary to "go to His brothers". That's a change of language and status. According to Jesus, the resurrection has has brought a new identity to those who identified with His death. They now have a new life. God has always wanted a family. He planned ahead of time what kind of family He would have: "God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. After God made that decision of what his children should be like, he followed it up by calling people by name. After he called them by name, he set them on a solid basis with himself. And then, after getting them established, he stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what he had begun." (Romans 8:29-30 MSG).
The family of God is shaped like Jesus in image and likeness. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call us His brothers and sisters. We are all born of God. We all have the same life of God flowing in our veins. The same Spirit of the Father in our hearts crying out "Abba". You are truly part of the family of gods called Christians.
SPEAK OUT.
I am part of the family of gods for I am a child of the living God by faith in Christ Jesus.
