Importunity: Secret To Answered Prayers.

”…full of joyful hope, patient under persecution, earnest and persistent in prayer.” Romans 12:12 (WNT)

Prayer is one of the highest privileges of the believer. God invites you to reason with Him, to ask, to petition His Supreme Court, and to hold Him to His Word through prayer.

And it’s not only that God invites us to pray, He wants to answer our prayers.

But there is a secret to answered prayer: proskarteréō. This Greek word means to be earnest and persistent. It means importunity — being relentless in prayer. When we pray, we must not give up until we see the answer.

As used in the New Testament, the term consistently binds persistence with alertness, suggesting that effective prayer is not sporadic but rhythmic and vigilant.

Elijah prayed seven times until the rain came. The Lord Jesus prayed twice until a blind man saw clearly. And Jesus prayed three times until angels came to strengthen Him in the Garden of Gethsemane, the night of His crucifixion.

What do you want from God? You can have it — if you don’t give up. Be persistent. Be importunate.
