"These two things cannot change: God cannot lie when he makes a promise, and he cannot lie when he makes an oath. These things encourage us who came to God for safety. They give us strength to hold on to the hope we have been given."
Hebrews 6:18 NCV
Balaam by prophetic utterance declared that, “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19 NKJV).
You see sometimes we find it difficult to trust God because we have become so accustomed to the people who talk cheaply and never follow through their commitment. God places a premium on words and so should we. When He makes a promise He does not break His Word. His Word is His bond to us.
I sympathize with human infirmity when people make promises they can't keep. Sometimes they make such promises sincerely, intending to make it good, but when the time for performance comes, they either don't have the means, the energy or resources to make their promises come true.
But God is different, He possesses all the means, owns all the energy in the universe, and all the resources belong to Him. He speaks and has the wherewithal to make it good.
Our confidence in God's promises must remain unshaken. Do not lose hope because God doesn't need to lie for He has the power to make what He says to you come to pass for you. Like Abram, hold on to God's promise, a child is coming and is already here.
God promised eternal life to the saints of old and He has made it good through His Son Jesus Christ. If by His Sovereign declaration He uttered "He who believes in Jesus should not die" (John 3:16), then we can have strong consolation who have fled for refuge in Christ Jesus.
He who said "I give them eternal life and they shall never perish" (John 10:28) is able to make it good. He who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel is able to bring His word to pass in your life. Be of good cheer for He has overcome the world.
I am confident that the promise of eternal life is real in my life for God who promised it has made it good in me in Jesus' Name. All the promises of God in my life and for my life will happen in Jesus' Name.
