“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.” (Hebrews 2:9KJV).
Imagine yourself owing a million dollars and you have no way of paying back. Then a rich friend without notice pays back the amount and on top deposits two million dollars into your account for your own use. That is the definition of grace. Undeserved, unearned favor that puts you over your circumstances. Jesus came and found us owing righteousness to divine justice and we were supposed to die as a result. He stooped down and took our place and paid our debt with His very life. He tasted death for all of us.
If someone literally die for you, will you ignore it and literally die for yourself. Jesus died for us physically so that we would not die for ourselves physically. And if you check the phrase “taste death” as used in the New Testament, it refers to physical death (See Mark 9:1; Luke 9:27; John 8:52). Physical death was dealt with at the cross.
We should not be dying physically but because we lack knowledge and understanding, death is running roughshod over God’s kids. “They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.” (Psalm 82:5-7KJV).
You are not a mere man. You are a child of the living God. You are a god and a force for good. Refuse to be held down by poverty, lack, sickness or death. You’re victorious above all because of Christ in you. Jesus tasted poverty for you; He tasted sickness for you; and He also tasted death for you so that you will taste none of these things. Live above death. That is your calling in Christ.
Jesus tasted physical death for me so that I can live in dominion over death.
