Keep Your Gaze On The Son.
"Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls." — Hebrews 12:2–3 NKJV
The root of weariness and discouragement in the soul is not circumstance — it is distraction. The race of faith is meant to be run with endurance, with your eyes fixed solely on Christ Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith. The moment your gaze shifts from Him, you forfeit the supernatural energy that only that gaze supplies.
Distraction takes many forms — the pain you feel in your body, the shadow of financial lack, the weight of suffering. But make no mistake: these are not just hardships. They are weapons. Inflicting pain on believers is Satan's foremost weapon of mass distraction. He tried it with Job — slaughtering all ten of his children, dismantling his vast wealth, and afflicting his body with unbearable sores. Yet Job was not moved. He was not swallowed by discouragement. His soul remained anchored to God.
When the storm was at its worst, Job declared, "I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth" (Job 19:25 NKJV). Even in ruin, he blessed the name of the Lord: "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord" (Job 1:21 NKJV). To praise God in the aftermath of loss is not denial — it is an act of brutal, unwavering focus on the One who cannot be shaken.
Can you do what Job did? When trials strip away what you love, will your eyes stay on your Redeemer?
Consider Simon Peter. He walked on water — actual water — as long as his eyes were locked on Jesus. The moment he looked away, fixing his gaze on the boisterous waves, he began to sink (Matthew 14:29–30). The waves did not change. The storm did not stop. But his focus did. And that made all the difference. No matter how fierce the waves of life rage around you, keep your heart steadied on the Lord. The waves have no power over the one who does not look at them.
Isaiah understood this truth long before Peter stepped out of the boat: "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You" (Isaiah 26:3 NKJV). Perfect peace is not the absence of trouble — it is the presence of a fixed mind. A mind stayed on God.
Do not let anything steal your gaze. The enemy knows that if he can redirect your eyes, he can redirect your life. But you are not subject to distraction — you are a runner with a finish line, and the One who set your faith in motion is the same One who will bring it to completion.
Prayer
Father, I fix my eyes on Jesus — the Author and Finisher of my faith. I refuse every distraction the enemy sends against me. I declare that my mind is stayed on You, and therefore I walk in perfect peace. I am constantly renewed and energised for every work You have called me to, for my gaze is on the Son. In Jesus' name. Amen.
