Move On to Your Rehoboth

Genesis 26:19-22 (NKJV)
19 Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and found a well of running water. 20 But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen, claiming, “The water is ours.” So he named the well Esek, meaning “quarrel.” 21 Then they dug another well, and the herdsmen quarreled over that one too, so he named it Sitnah, meaning “hostility.” 22 So Isaac moved on and dug another well, and this time, no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, “Now the LORD has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”

Life often brings setbacks, losses, and disappointments that can weigh heavily on our hearts. Yet, the story of Isaac teaches us the transformative power of letting go and pressing forward with faith. Too many of us linger in the pain of what was lost, unable to see the possibilities that lie ahead.

“Overmourning” is when we dwell too long in the shadow of our past hurts. It’s natural to grieve, to feel the sting of loss, or to shed tears over what went wrong—but we must not stay there. God has appointed you to a future filled with promise, and you must step into it with courage and hope.

Isaac faced repeated losses when the herdsmen of Gerar claimed his wells out of jealousy and entitlement. Yet, he refused to let these setbacks define him. After they took the first well, he dug another. When they seized the second, Isaac, a man of peace, didn’t waste time complaining or wallowing in frustration. Instead, he moved on and dug a third well. This time, no one opposed him, and he named it Rehoboth, declaring, “The LORD has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”

Isaac’s persistence is a powerful reminder: when a relationship fails, it is not the end of your story. Grieve, but then move forward. When a business collapses, start anew. If a ministry falters, rebuild with faith. Keep digging your wells, trusting that God will lead you to your Rehoboth—a place of spaciousness, fruitfulness, and peace, where no enemy can steal your joy.

PRAYER
Lord, grant me the grace to release my pain, loss, and disappointment. Fill me with faith and courage to start afresh, trusting in Your promise to make room for me. Lead me to my Rehoboth, where I will flourish for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
