"That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel," Ephesians 3:6.
Can you imagine yourself as a houseboy working in the house of a rich man who has just died and the lawyer has been called to read out the will of the deceased's vast wealth and you are invited. You thought you were called to the meeting to be an errand boy for this rich family while proceedings were ongoing but to your surprise your name is read out first. To the utter amazement of everyone present you are part of the will. That is the story of the Gentile [non-Jewish] church. God made great and precious promises to God's covenant people in generations past which have been fulfilled in Christ who has also made it possible for the Gentiles to share in those promises too.
The biggest promise God made to His covenant people was to conquer death and bring life and immortality to light all by Himself; "Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus," (II Timothy 1:1). According to the promise, the Seed of the woman was to come and crush the head of the serpent (Genesis 3:15). And that has been fulfilled in that Christ through death destroyed him who had the power of death, that is the devil, and delivered all through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage (Hebrews 2:14-15).
Just before His passion, the Lord prayed, "And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:" (John 17:22 ). You know that everyone sinned and fell short of the glory of God. Aging, weakness, wrinkles, sickness and death are all a result of that forfeited glory by the first man. But the second Adam came to give it all back as God promised in various generations past; "This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now it has been revealed to God’s people. For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory." (Colossians 1:26-27 NLT).
Glory is back! Beauty has come in place of ashes, joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Aging will be supplanted by youthfulness, health shall spring forth speedily and life shall be forever. The cry of "Comfort ye, Comfort ye my people" can now be actualized. God shall wipe away all tears from your eyes. The coming of Jesus, His death and resurrection was not a nonevent in history. This was the most consequential incident to ever been journaled in the annals of history. God came all by Himself, defeated death all by Himself, and rose from the dead all by Himself, for He is God all by Himself. His own arm brought salvation because no one was able and worthy to save. He fulfilled all the promises He made to Adam, Abraham, the Jews and the prophets when He died and rose again; the same promises of which the Gentile church is a partaker.
I am a partaker of the promise of life in Christ Jesus.
