Put God First

"But make His Kingdom and righteousness your chief aim, and then these things shall all be given you in addition." Matthew 6:33 (WNT)

Our priorities define us. What we regard as most important gets our attention first. You can easily discover someone's values by what they prioritize. And what we prioritize controls our lives whether or not we realize it.

The Lord Jesus shows us what is important and worthy to be prioritized above all—the kingdom of God. We must seek God first. Our relationship with God must come before our jobs or businesses.

You need to start caring what God thinks about you and what you are doing. His righteousness must be your daily pursuit above all else. We live in a generation that does not care what God thinks about their lives. You must dare to be different.

Will you put God first in your finances this year? You can easily spot your priorities by looking at your expenditure. Who comes first? Who gets the most? When God is first in your life, you will set aside your tithe and offerings first from your income before you start paying your own bills.

And putting God first sometimes means losing relationships that don't build godliness in you. No friend will come first. You will gladly risk offending them as long as you put your covenant relationship with God first.

Look at your time chart. What and who gets the most of your time and attention? How much time do you spend in prayer and in the Word? How often do you attend church meetings and activities?

Nothing spells love like time. Give God more of your time this year. Start each day in prayer and study of the Bible. If you do this—putting God first in everything consistently—you will be amazed at the blessings that will abound and be lavishly added to your life.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the new year. I open my life; please take the throne in my heart. I declare that you take the first place in my life in everything I do or say. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
