"But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus," Ephesians 2:4-6.
Jesus did not come to make bad people good; He came to make dead people live. That's the true meaning of salvation. A saved man is not a reworked man or a man who changed his ways. A saved person is one who has been born from death. Anyone who is not born again is dead as far as God is concerned. Many people in churches focus on trying to change people's behaviors. They think the Bible is a code of conduct given to straighten out mischievous apples among us. Well that's not all the truth. Jesus said, "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63. The Word is life, to breathe upon those dead in sin.
You can not change a dead man by correcting him. He has no capacity to hear you and change nomatter the number of rules and regulations you put in place. You cannot legislate morality. That legislation may give you power to arrest offenders but you cannot create a new heart in someone. Only God can do that through our Lord Jesus Christ. When we identify with His death and resurrection we are made alive. Have you noticed that the Word does not call our repentance as "repentance from bad works" but "repentance from dead works"?(Hebrews 6:1). Whatever you do without Christ is dead work, and that includes even the most charitable deeds like giving to the needy.
See yourself as someone who was dead but now alive in Christ not as someone who changed his ways. It will change the way you look at life in general. You will walk in newness of life. You will become more aware that there is a new life coursing through you right now that is different from the life with which you were born from your mother. That life is superior to sin, attracts God's provision and is not intimidated by the forces of this world. That Christ-life with which you were raised makes you a champion and is infused with greatness. It is impregnable to sickness, disease and death. Start reigning in life, you are alive to God now. Praise the Lord!
I was dead in sin but now I am alive together with Christ.
