Serve God Wholeheartedly.

Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24 (NKJV)

Serving with a full heart unlocks God’s abundant blessings. When we serve with genuine devotion, we draw near to the heart of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve and give His life for many (Mark 10:45).

Many serve with mixed motives—some for personal gain, others for recognition, or out of obligation. These fall short of God’s desire. The promise for those who serve wholeheartedly is a divine reward, the “inheritance” of God’s kingdom.

Consider a volunteer at a local shelter who quietly prepares meals for the homeless. She doesn’t seek praise or attention; her joy comes from knowing she’s serving God by feeding His people. Her heart is fully engaged, and her actions reflect Christ’s love, bringing her peace and a sense of eternal purpose.

When giving, do so generously and joyfully. The Bible warns against the ways of a miser: Do not eat the bread of a miser, nor desire his delicacies; for as he thinks in his heart, so is he. ‘Eat and drink!’ he says to you, but his heart is not with you” (Proverbs 23:6-8, NKJV). A miser’s gifts are tainted by reluctance, like someone offering a donation while secretly resenting it. True giving flows from a sincere heart.

Love must also be authentic. Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good” (Romans 12:9, NKJV). Pretending to love while harboring ill will is like hiding poison in a beautifully wrapped gift—it’s deceptive and harmful. Genuine love is sincere, whether in kindness or honesty.

In God’s house, serve with excellence and total commitment. Half-hearted efforts fall short. Imagine a worship leader who sings with passion, not for the crowd’s applause but to honor God. Her wholehearted devotion inspires others and glorifies Him.

An usher or cleaner who labors only for the glory of God, not for recognition or praise carries the heart of the Lord Jesus. Whatever you lay your hands on, do it heartily as to the Lord and not to men.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, I love You with all my heart. Help me serve You with excellence and sincerity, doing everything as unto You, not for human approval. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
