STAY ON FIRE
“Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor; be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord.” Romans 12:11 (AMPC)
When natural fire burns, it consumes the material that powers it—whether wood or hay. But when Moses was tending his father-in-law’s sheep in the wilderness of Midian, he saw a supernatural sight: a bush burning but not consumed.
When he drew closer to observe this strange phenomenon, he heard a voice calling him by name from the burning bush. It was the Lord.
This was symbolic. The God who sets a heath on fire in the desert wants to set you on fire by His Spirit. He desires that you remain constantly aglow with the Spirit.
What does it mean to be on fire for God? A believer who is on fire is characterized by an intense hunger for fellowship with God through prayer, a passionate desire for the living Word of God, and a sincere and deep love for His church.
Walking in love, exuding the joy of the Lord, and bearing the other fruits of the Spirit are telltale signs of a life on fire for God.
When a believer is aglow, going to church becomes a delight, giving and being generous feels like sport, and sharing the gospel becomes a precious responsibility.
What Christian life would you choose? One characterized by apathy, complacency, and indifference, or one that is full of power, glory, and the unspeakable joy of the Spirit? I hope you choose the latter. And just like Moses’ burning bush, if you catch fire, the world will come and watch you burn.
Prayer.
Lord, set me on fire. Fill me with Your Spirit and might that I may burn for You till the end of time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
