The Believer's Relationship With The World.

"And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires." 2 Peter 1:4 NLT

The world is corrupt! That is God's disposition as far as the world is concerned. It is the corruption that is caused by lust- lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the pride of life. Lust is a longing or desire for what is forbidden. And we can see that in the world today; same gender marriages, men with other men committing shameful acts that are against nature. We see lust for power, influence and domination driving the world powers that be to the brink of violent conflicts. James was right: "These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death (James 1:15 NLT). Thank God we have escaped the decay and death in the world through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We are in the world but are not of the world. We walk here, do business here and live in houses built here but we do not belong here. "But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior." (Philippians 3:20 NLT). So we relate with the world with the consciousness that the world is corrupt, the world is dead and the world is operating at cross purposes with God. Being born again, we must maintain that conscious detachment from the world and hold lightly whatever we possess or gain in the world from things to positions. We can not love God as we do and love the world at the same time. We can not flow with God and flow with the world. We must collide with one of them.

We should never be deceived by the attractions of the world. It's all empty. When God sees our university halls which are centers of knowledge and ideas that rule the world, God calls it foolishness.  The wisdom of the nobles of this world He has cast down as nothing. The fame, the riches, the power and influence the world gives is vanity of vanities. There's nothing new under the sun. Solomon tried all that his heart longed for; from women of all types, shapes and colors, to the best wine, to be the richest man that ever lived but in the end, he felt emptier than he started (his confession by the way).

The only thing that lasts is relationship with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Once Christ is front and center, life in the world gets a meaning and existence turns to living. Having everything without God is torture to the inner man. On the flip side you can not have God and Jesus and not have fullness of joy and pleasures evermore.

SPEAK OUT.
I am in the world but I am not of the world. I have escaped the corruption that is in the world that comes as a result of lusts
