THE CONCEPT OF SIN: The Unpardonable Sin.

| Spiry Tee

"If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which  does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death."
I John 5:16‭-‬17 NKJV

Sins have categories and not every sin is alike in the sight of God. All sin is bad but other sins are greater than others. Do you remember Jesus saying that the one who delivered him to Pilate to be crucified had the "greater sin" (John 19:11 ). He qualified that sin as greater.

Paul spoke about the sin of sexual immorality to the church at Corinth and warned them that the one who commits adultery sins against own body.  He said, "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." (I Corinthians 6:18 NKJV). Sexual immorality is sinning against your own body.

However, despite the category and weight of sin one commits, the blood of Jesus is greater than all our sins. As we walk in the light as he is in the light, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7). No sin has power to lord it over you as you walk under the grace of God.

Only one sin leads to eternal damnation. And no true believer in Jesus will ever commit that sin. This sin is what Jesus called "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit" (Mathew 12:31-32). The book of Hebrews gives us insight into this sin: "For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the  testimony  of two or three witnesses. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? (Hebrews 10:26‭-‬29 NKJV)

We cannot be forgiven when we reject the sacrifice of Jesus and count the blood of Jesus an unholy thing and insult the Spirit of grace. How will our sins be washed away when we denounce the blood that washes away our sins? So as long as we trust in the blood of Jesus, see Jesus as our sacrifice and embrace the grace of God lavished on us by the Spirit, we should not worry about our sins not being pardoned. We find forgiveness in Jesus.

Therefore if we see any brother in Christ committing a sin (not of rejecting the blood of Jesus) we must ask and give the person life. Sin kills and we must restore our brothers and sisters in the spirit of meekness. You are a life giver in the Name of Jesus.
