THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rom 6:23 KJV).

 Do you remember the story of King Hezekiah in Isaiah chapter 38 when he became sick and was near death? Isaiah the prophet saw in the spirit that the king will not survive the sickness and went to his house and delivered the news. King Hezekiah heard it and prayed earnestly to the Lord to deliver him from death. This is what Hezekiah said to the Lord in his prayer, “…Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.” (Isa 38:3).

Did you notice that Hezekiah wanted to be justified by his works before God? He did not invoke God’s mercy in his plea but rather told God to look at his good works and give him life. Well, God did exactly that and what did He get? The divine calculator found that all of Hezekiah good works were worth fifteen years. If man was to live by his good works how many will get beyond 15 years. We all deserved death because of our many sins but God loved us so much and gave us Christ who died so that we might have life.

The good works of Hezekiah were only worth 15 years but God’s gift is life forever. God gave us eternal life in Christ for free. “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1Jn 5:11-12). That is why we ought not to bring ourselves under the law for the law kills because under the law you live by your good works. God is calling all those who want to live forever to come and receive freely in Christ Jesus. Just believe and you will live the God-life forever.
