Why Was Jesus Anointed? #1 Preach The Gospel To The Poor.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor..."
(Isaiah 61:1 NKJV)

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. Jesus was anointed by God to preach the gospel (the good news) to the poor. To be anointed means to be appointed by consecration; to be chosen and commissioned for a divine task or assignment.

And for Jesus to accomplish the assignment He was given, He needed the Holy Spirit to rest upon Him permanently. So the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him to preach the gospel to the poor. Our God is the God of the poor. The poor are usually helpless, and many times they are hopeless. God sent Jesus to give hope to the poor.

I remember when I first heard the gospel, I was in deep poverty. My level of exposure to life was very limited in my village. I never went for school trip in the city to see the world. I never had the opportunity to visit relatives in town. All I knew was my poor village life.

But when I embraced the gospel at age thirteen, the hope l recieved for a greater life was great. I started believing that all things are possible. I began to see that life can be what God intended. As I grew I began to think like a king that the Bible showed me.

The quality of my spirit changed dramatically because of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Gradually, I realized there was nothing too good for me. I deserve the best.

God knows the poor need good news more than they need food and other necessities. Hope is an important ingredient to staying alive. Jesus came to tell the poor that things are going to be okay because He came to pay the price for their sins.

If you are poor materially at this point in time, hear the word of God for you, "Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position [as a born-again believer, called to the true riches and to be an heir of God];" (James 1:9 AMP).

It is only in the gospel that those of low degree are exalted to a high position in Christ. There is hope for everyone in the kingdom. The forgotten people are remembered in the kingdom. Those who are despised have a tomorrow to look forward to in Christ Jesus. Your future is bright as long as Jesus is in it.

SPEAK LIFE.
Jesus came to give me hope of a greater tomorrow through the gospel. Poverty, and lack are not my portion in Jesus' name.
