Why Was Jesus Anointed? #3 Proclaim Liberty To The Captives.
| Spiry Tee
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me...To proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;" (Isaiah 61:1 NKJV).
Freedom is God's idea. He created us to be free moral beings. Our captivity started when Adam sold out his birthright to satan by submitting to his word of rebellion against God.
By eating the forbidden tree as a result of satan's bidding, Adam and Eve forfeited their freedom and became satan's subjects ruled by fear of death.
But God so loved Adam and his descendants that He made a plan of redemption. He sent His only begotten Son, whom He loved so much, to come to earth to die for our sins so that anyone who believes in Him should not perish in captivity of satan but have life, freedom, and peace.
By His death, Jesus overcame the strongman who kept us captive doing his will. "Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery." (Hebrews 2:14-15 ESV).
We are free in Jesus. Free from the devil's rule, free from the power of sin, free from the law that condemned us, and free from the fear of death. Now we walk in the liberty of Christ. "For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery." (Galatians 5:1 ESV).
SPEAK LIFE.
I am free from the bondage caused by fear of death. I choose today to walk in the freedom Christ has purchased for me.
