Why Was Jesus Anointed? #4 Recovery Of Sight To The Blind.

| Spiry Tee

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
(Luke 4:18‭-‬19 NKJV)

We know from the "gospels" that Jesus performed several miracles which no one could number, and one of them is opening the eyes of the blind. People, including those who were born blind from their mother's womb, received their sight.

That is amazing if you think about it; but the biggest miracle Jesus came to do is open the eyes of our hearts. "I pray that he will give light to the eyes of your hearts..." (Ephesians 1:18 CJB).

When Jesus called apostle Paul, He gave him a mandate to take His mission to the Gentiles, the mission of restoring sight to the spiritually blind.

"I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you to open their eyes so that they turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’ (Acts 26:17‭-‬18 NET).

Spiritual blindness is worse than physical blindness. It is spiritual blindness that leads to atheism (an ideology or belief that says there is no God). It is spiritual blindness that make people think they have no sin. Only the spiritually blind believe that the created universe is God (pantheism).

It takes spiritual sight to see how sinful you are. It is through the gospel that God reveals man's need and profers the solution which is Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Man's need is freedom from sin, true joy, genuine peace and life eternal. Jesus helps us to recognize our own blindness and allow Him to open our eyes.

Man's spiritual blindness began in Genesis when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden.  They were awaken to the senses but became blind and dead to the spirit. But the Lord came to change all that and give those who trust in Him their sight again. "Jesus said,] “For judgment I have come into this world, so that those who do not see may gain their sight, and the ones who see may become blind.” (John 9:39 NET).

SPEAK LIFE.
I have received my spiritual sight. The eyes of my heart are open to see the realities of the kingdom of God. I see now that life and immortality is a reality as I walk by faith and not by sensory perception.
